We strategised with Prostate Cancer UK to increase donations
Prostate Cancer UK (PCUK) is a charity whose top priority is to fund research to stop prostate cancer killing men. They invest millions to find better treatments and better tests than can spot fast-growing cancers early, and could be used in a screening programme to save thousands of lives.
The Challenge
Prostate Cancer UK was receiving feedback that its existing donation platform was too limited and did not give supporters enough flexibility when making one-off or regular donations. The charity needed a more user-friendly donation journey that made it easier for people to give in the way that suited them, while also supporting the organisation’s need to increase donations, improve retention and create a smoother supporter experience.
Limited Donation Options
The existing platform restricted how supporters could make both one-off and recurring donations
Supporter Experience
Users needed a simpler, clearer and more flexible journey that made donating feel easy and accessible
Increasing Donations
The challenge was to remove friction from the donation process and help Prostate Cancer UK encourage more supporters to give regularly
What We Delivered
Working collaboratively with the Prostate Cancer UK digital team, we explored ways to give supporters more flexibility when choosing how to donate.
Our research showed that PayPal was becoming an increasingly popular donation method, with many leading UK fundraising charities already offering it as a payment option. Based on this insight, we recommended integrating PayPal into Prostate Cancer UK’s existing donation journey.
Using the existing PCUK design, we seamlessly added PayPal to the donation page, ensuring the experience felt consistent with the rest of the website. We also made sure the digital team could clearly identify and track PayPal donation data within Umbraco Contour.
Once developed, the integration went through full QA testing before being deployed to the test environment for review by the PCUK digital team. Following final checks and sign-off, the new donation form was deployed to the live website.
The Result
The PayPal integration gave supporters a quicker, more flexible way to donate, helping Prostate Cancer UK respond directly to user feedback.
By adding a trusted and familiar payment method, the charity reduced friction in the donation journey and made it easier for users to complete both one-off and regular gifts.
Following launch, Prostate Cancer UK saw a measurable uplift in online donations, including a 14% increase in completed donation journeys and a 9% increase in regular giving conversions. The project helped improve the supporter experience while creating a stronger, more accessible donation platform for future fundraising growth.
