Barnardo’s West Yorkshire Keyworkers - Designing a trusted digital home for keyworker services.

We designed and built a supportive brochure website that communicates complex care information with clarity, warmth, and accessibility at its core.

The Challenge

Barnardo’s West Yorkshire Keyworkers needed a clear, accessible digital platform to help communicate their services during a pilot growth phase. The existing absence of a dedicated website meant families, young people, and professionals had no central online space to understand and access support.

The service supports vulnerable audiences, meaning the website had to be designed with exceptional care, clarity, and accessibility.

Information needed to be structured in a way that worked for three distinct user groups: children and young people, parents/carers, and professionals.

The platform had to balance detailed service information with a reassuring, easy-to-navigate experience that builds trust and reduces cognitive load.

What We Delivered

Our primary objective was to ensure that there was a perfect balance between offering comprehensive information and fostering a sense of security and understanding for the individuals looking for help.

Following an extensive discovery session, the human tech agency applied our proven Know Thy User methodology to establish a project roadmap. We commenced with the design process once our team was aligned with the West Yorkshire Keyworkers Services’ goals and objectives for the website. Our expert design team created a unique homepage design tailored to coincide with WYKW’s vision and cater specifically to their three audiences (children/young people, professional and parents/carers). The West Yorkshire Keyworkers team were impressed with the initial homepage design and were humbled with how well we’ve understood their goals and vision.

During the design phase, we had to ensure that the website design prioritised accessibility, particularly for users facing more pronounced challenges. Our expert designers started by selecting colour palettes with accessibility in mind. Additionally, we built an accessibility control panel, empowering users to adjust text and images sizes accordingly.

After the design phase, our senior developer transitioned into the development stage, bringing the designs to life. As the website was launched during the pilot phase, the human team had to ensure that the framework was flexible enough to seamlessly complete updates and changes as the service expands and grows. We chose to use WordPress as the framework for this making it exceptionally easy for the admin team to grasp and navigate.

The Result

The human tech agency is beyond grateful to have been a part of this wholesome project and we cannot wait to see the West Yorkshire Keyworkers Service changing people's lives. The team looks forward to collaborating with this truly exceptional team in 2024 for phase 2 of the website. We can’t wait to witness the success unfold.
