We helped British Transport Police keep the UK safe

BTP are the national police force for the railways. Every day, they police the journeys of more than six million passengers. Their aim is to get everyone home safe, secure and on time.

The Challenge

British Transport Police needed to modernise their website while continuing to use a CMS that was approaching the end of vendor support. With no budget available for a full CMS replacement, they needed an experienced agency that could work within the limitations of their existing platform and still deliver a modern, integrated digital experience.

Legacy CMS

BTP’s existing website was built on a CMS that was going out of support

Budget Constraints

A full CMS replacement was not possible within the available budget

Modernisation Challenge

The challenge was to create a modern, integrated website without being held back by legacy technology

What We Delivered

The Human Tech Agency began the project by running three focused workshops covering users, technology and design. These sessions helped us understand the needs of BTP’s audiences, the requirements of their internal CMS users and the technical integrations needed across the site.

Working closely with the BTP team, we created wireframes and designs for the key pages and sections, ensuring the new website would feel modern, clear and easy to use. During the technical workshops, we also explored important integrations, including the “Network Most Wanted” section, which uses CCTV images to help identify criminals across railway, bus and tube networks.

We designed and developed the full website in just three months, retaining BTP’s existing CMS while adapting the back end to introduce enhanced admin roles for their internal teams.

The Result

British Transport Police received a modern, integrated website without the cost or disruption of moving to a new CMS.

The improved design made key information easier for the public to find, while the enhanced back-end roles gave BTP staff greater control over content management and publishing.

By working within the limits of the legacy platform, The Human Tech Agency helped extend the life of BTP’s existing technology while delivering a more flexible, user-friendly digital experience.
